Essential oils were never something I really got into, until I started talking to Sabine from Echolife, who reminded me of the benefits of lavender oil for sensitive skin. You can read all about my discoveries on lavender oil here. Since then, with Alissa's help, I've discovered how beneficial all sorts of oils can be for all sorts of skin types. Most of us have heard of the benefits of lavender, tea tree and rose hip oils, but very few others, although they do pop up every now and then.
DRY SKIN
As we know, dry skin lacks moisture, and can often lead to sensitized areas of the face, so we need to use gentle oils. The best oils are rose, lavender, geranium and sandalwood. Rose and lavender are so easy to come by, and lavender is the best most gentle choice.
My picks: Echolife Lavender Face Mist ($19.90) and Echolife Rose Hip Oil ($23.90)
OILY SKIN
Oily skin is hard to tackle, but remember, just because it's oily doesn't mean it doesn't NEED oil, it just means your skin is producing too much of the wrong oil. Essential oils for oily skin need to balance out the oil, and have antiseptic properties to avoid the oils clogging up pores and causing breakouts. Good choices are lemon, cedarwood, cypress and juniper oils. Never heard of them? Me neither. Lemon oil is available widely in chemists and online, and should be mixed with a carrier oil such as jojoba to be used as a serum.
My pick: The Oil Garden Lemon Essential Oil ($17.99 from Echolife)
NORMAL SKIN
No particular concern? Well, aren't you a lucky duck. Rose hip and argan oils are fantastic all-rounders for those with normal skin.
My pick: Seven Wonders Argan Oil $24.95 from chemists
